Accessibility

Every page here is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA and Section 508, and is tested against that on every change.

That is a commitment about every page, not an aspiration for most of them. It is also checked rather than asserted: an automated accessibility sweep runs over every page and every route before any change can ship, on a desktop and a mobile viewport, and a failure stops the change.

What That Means Here

  • Every page has one heading structure you can navigate by.
  • Everything you can do with a pointer you can do with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Every form control has a label attached to it.
  • Color is never the only thing carrying meaning, and text meets AA contrast.
  • The station map is one route to a station; the list beside it holds the same records.
  • Movement is subtracted from a finished page rather than added to an empty one, so a reader who has asked for less motion loses the animation and never the content.
  • Every chart, where one appears, is accompanied by the same numbers as a table.

Tested, Not Assumed

Colour choices are measured against the contrast thresholds rather than eyeballed, and the ones that failed are recorded next to what replaced them. The keyboard path through the site is exercised by an automated test, not just reviewed.

If Something Is in Your Way

Report it through the project's repository and it will be treated as a defect rather than an enhancement, because that is what it is.
